We are between the rivers Ter and Freser. By the way, we cannot complain about water, because there are 312 sources in our village.
We are at 104 Km. fom Barcelona and there are 85 Km. till Girona.
You can get there by car, but you can take the Barcelona-Vic-Puigcerdà railway, too.
The village is situated in a valley, among a lot of mountains. We are very near of the Nuria and Vallter 2000 sky stations.
With reference to the inhabitants of Ripoll, we are obout 11.000 in the 12 square kilometres of the village.
The most important moment was in the XI century, during the period of Oliba abbot. Under his influence the church was enlarged and some new monasteries were made, one of them was Montserrat.
It was damaged by an earthquake in 1428. Later, it was destroyed during the first 'carlista' war in 1835. Its rebuilt was promoted by the bishop of Vic, Josep Morgades in the year 1885.
It is very important its romaine cloister with two floors. Inside the monastery there are the graves of the first Catalan counts, one of them belongs to the above mentioned, Guifré el Pelós.
We cannot forget its front dated from the XII century. It is considered one of the jewels of the romaine stile and it is called the Bible in Stone. That is enough to plan trip.
There were very appreciated because of its great quality, careful design and good precision in shooting.
Because of these characteristics, Ripoll was considered one of the principal places in arm manufacturing of Spain ond one of the best places in Europe.
The Ripoll arms are found in museums and collections all over the world. If you want to visit us, you will watch a good collection in our Ethnography Museum.
That is only a sign of what can you see. We have got a lot of interesting places to visit.
If you prefer a good meal, you will find excellent food like flesh, mushrooms, any sausages, sweets,...
You can admire Pirineos greatness. The country gives you the possibility of practising adventure sport, trekking, sky, trips, parachute, etc.,...
Well, i have written a very serious page, and that is because my village it is a very serious thing.
If you love feast and fair, we celebrate ours in May 11th, the day of Saint Eudald.
